Generic on hold messages are good enough … right? Stan Lee doesn’t think so.
In fact, the legendary creator of Marvel Comics took time out of his busy schedule of blockbuster film cameos to rant about this common on hold faux pas. You might think such an influential figure wouldn’t have time to rant about something like on hold messages – but apparently it’s a topic that has captured his passion and he’s eager to share that passion with others!
This kind of mistake can be avoided by remembering one thing; there is a real person on the phone listening to your on hold messages and they need your help. Forgetting this simple fact can lead to the kind of generic caller experiences that can only be described as a special kind of torture. You want your on hold messages to be specific, informative, entertaining and memorable. And the more your on hold messages are like this, the more likely you are to keep callers engaged, happy and on the line.
After all, the only thing worse than telling your customers “your call is important to us, please continue to hold” is the 45-minute flute solo that usually follows.
