A team from On Hold Company recently attended the 2012 Chick-fil-A Leadercast. Leadercast is a day-long leadership seminar that originates in Atlanta, Ga., but is simulcast at thousands of locations across the country. It features great thinkers, writers, businesspeople and athletes sharing inspirational and motivational stories about life and leadership (just another reason why I love the Truett Cathy business philosophy). This year’s lineup was stacked, but the most anticipated speaker undoubtedly was New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow.
Tebow was reunited with Urban Meyer, his former coach at the University of Florida, for a leadership discussion moderated by CNN’s Soledad O’Brien. Tebow’s confidence and selfless charm shined as he discussed what it takes to be a leader.
Leadership, Tebow said, is the ability to influence someone else. even just one person, in a good way or a bad way. In fact, my favorite quote was his reaction to celebrities who say they aren’t a role model.
“Yes you are. You just aren’t a very good one,” he said.
At On Hold Company, we agree with Tebow that influence is a key factor in building relationships. We take pride in the positive influence we have not only on our clients’ on-hold messages, but their overall branding and marketing as well. That’s why so many clients from mom-and-pop shops to large corporations have been with us for years.
Tebow talked about the passion and sacrifice necessary to be a leader. He discussed the criticism he faced as the Denver Broncos quarterback, even when the team was winning. “Don’t worry about what you can’t control,” he said. “Just focus on your attitude.”
He also was open and honest about his toughest moment as a leader after his Gators lost to Ole Miss, ending a bid for an undefeated season. “We lost because we weren’t the toughest team that day,” Tebow said. “We lost because we didn’t have the highest character.”
And, of course, he couldn’t escape the phenomenon known as “Tebowing.” “I just try to be real and authentic,” he said. “That passion comes from down deep.”
We feel the same way at On Hold Company. From tech support to customer service to our award-winning production team, we work tirelessly to produce the results you desire in your on-hold marketing. Doing the things we love and living life with passion is part of the Cultural DNA around here.
